The Shack

On the recommendation of a co-worker, I got a copy of “The Shack” as an audio book this week.  While I’ve not finished it yet, it has broken my heart, made me cry and opened my eyes, heart, and mind to God in a way that I’ve never before allowed to happen.

While I won’t give away the plot, I highly recommend you pick up a copy.  But be warned, don’t begin reading it unless you have a box of Kleenexes handy.  Especially through chapter 4. I know I cried three different times during that chapter.  Mainly because I could put myself in the situation.  It really, honestly hurt me to listen to the events as they unfolded.

Outside of all of the tears, thoughts and feelings, I really like the style that the author used to write this book.  It’s written third-person, but not omnipotent.  You don’t know everything, only what is happening as the main character moves through the story.  That just adds to my ability to get involved.  Because I don’t know what every character in the story is thinking, it helps me put myself into the situation by guessing what could be going on - much the way “real” life is.

Honestly, if you’re wondering about your relationship with God, even if you’re not a Christian, then you need this book.  It may bring things into focus for you, or at the least, bring things into a bit more focus.

Judy, even though this book brought me to tears, I’m glad you recommened it to me.

What an interesting coincidence. A friend and member of our Bible study small group has been recommending that book for a few weeks now. I may have to look into it.
